What is Alcohol Septal Ablation ?

It is the treatment for an inherited disease called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. In this condition, the heart wall is too thick and creates an abnormal pressure on your heart chambers. When the
condition does not die down with medication, alcohol septal ablation is advised. It is a non-surgical procedure in which the cells of the thickened heart wall are shrunk with the help of alcohol passed into through a catheter. It may also be done in conjunction with cardiac catheterization. The procedure is easier and the recovery is quicker when compared to open heart surgeries.

Aneurysmal Clipping

An aneurysm is a bulge in the artery caused by a weak/damaged atrial wall. An aneurismal clipping is an open surgical intervention procedure where a clip made of titanium or a surgically non-toxic metal is placed at the neck of this aneurysm to prevent further damage to vital structures. This process is generally done by a neurosurgeon for brain aneurysms. The clip acts as a barrier between the blood vessel and the aneurysm, halting the growth of it.

Atherectomy

It is a minimally invasive treatment procedure for people suffering from atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is the condition where the arteries get accumulated with a plaque material (generally fat and calcium build up) resulting in decreased blood flow through the vessels. In atherectomy, a thin catheter with a blade attached to its end is inserted into the arteries and the plaque is removed. This procedure is an alternative to angioplasty.

Atrial Fibrillation Ablation

Atrial fibrillation is the condition where the heart beats irregularly with weak or untimely heartbeats. One of the treatments for this disease is using heat or cold energy to neutralize the irregular signals and achieve a regular heartbeat rhythm. The treatment is performed when medication treatments fail. It may also be done during cardiac surgery with the help of thin flexible tubes called catheters.
