What is Blepharoplasty ?

Blepharoplasty refers to the type of plastic surgery that deals with correcting defects, tightening, removing excess muscle or fat, and supporting the weakened muscles around your eyes. People with droopy eyelids or bags under their eyes usually opt for this cosmetic surgery. Age changes result in weak muscle tone around the eyes which in turn leads to decreased skin tightness. Sagging eyes can also obstruct your peripheral vision and limit the vision range. Blepharoplasty can also be done in conjunction with an eyebrow surgery, a facelift, or a full face cosmetic reconstruction. The procedure can be done in an outpatient setting.

What is Hysterectomy?

A hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus, and most likely, the cervix. Depending on the reason for the surgery, a hysterectomy may involve removing surrounding organs and tissues, such as the fallopian tubes and ovaries. The uterus is where a baby grows during pregnancy. It’s lining is the blood you shed during your menstrual period. You lose the ability to get pregnant and you will not get your period after a hysterectomy.

How is it done?

  • Just like with any other surgery, the patient will be asked about their detailed medical history and drug allergies. Vision examinations and eyelid strength evaluations may also be done.
  • Under local anesthesia given to the eyelids, a surgeon carefully makes a cut or an incision on the target eyelid (upper or lower) just below your eyelashes.
  • They then remove excess fat, muscle, or sagging tissue. Care is taken to join or close the overlying skin in an anatomically tight position.
  • Proper closure and dressing will be done. You may be put on medication to help heal the area and avoid infections. Eyedrops may also be prescribed.
  • You may have to use an ice pack on the eyelid, apply the prescribed ointments and gently clean your eyes following the doctor’s instructions.
