What is Microscopic Laryngeal Surgery ?

It is a minimally invasive procedure, used to remove abnormal growths like cysts and tumors or take their biopsy. It is also done to treat vocal problems, vocal cord defects, and/or diagnoses laryngeal cancer, treat trauma, fracture, and/or airway constriction. The procedure involves the use of a laryngoscope inserted through the mouth or nose to visualize the upper and lower airway. The advantages of the ‘micro’ laryngoscopy compared to conventional laryngoscopy are that there is quicker recovery, minimal to no harm to adjacent structures, and better visualization. The micro laryngoscopy can either be direct or suspension laryngoscopy.

Skull Base Surgery

Skull base surgery is the surgery performed to excise, remove or limit the growth of certain pathologies like cysts and tumors occurring at the base of the skull. The surgery may also be done to treat cerebral neuropathies and certain nerve problems. The two types of skull base surgery based on the approach are- minimally invasive surgery and open skull base surgery.

Transnasal Surgery

Transnasal surgery or transnasal transsphenoidal surgery is the minimally invasive surgical procedure done to remove tumors affecting, or near the pituitary gland. An endoscope, with a camera attached to the tube, is passed through the nose to visualize and assess the tumors. These tumors mostly occur due to genetic mutations and DNA changes.
