What is Vascular Neurology ?

It is the part of medicine that deals with vascular abnormalities that have an effect on the brain like stroke, hemorrhage, internal bleeds, clots, aneurysms and more. Vascular neurologists are specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of stroke. Blood vessel malformations, brain or spinal cord injury, brain aneurysm, cerebral vasculitis, narrowing of arteries, carotid artery malformations, neck tumors, epistaxis, spinal vascular abnormalities, hematomas, transient ischemic attack, and more come under neuro-vascular disorders. Screening tests like blood count, urea report, kidney function tests, EEGs, CT scans, ultrasounds of carotid artery, and/or transcranial Doppler ultrasound will be performed to assess the condition.

  • Hemodialysis is a treatment to filter wastes and water from your blood, as your kidneys.
  • Did when they were healthy. Hemodialysis helps control blood pressure and balance.
  • Important minerals, such as potassium, sodium, and calcium, in your blood.
  • Hemodialysis can help you feel better and live longer, but it’s not a cure for kidney failure.
  • You may be able to do hemodialysis at home. Normally, hemodialysis begins well before your kidneys have shut down to the point of causing life-threatening complications.

What is Vascular Neurology ?

  • For patients suffering with above abnormalities, the treatment will first include assessment of their condition, their past medical history, and allergies. Treatment will be focused towards disability limitation and as much prevention as possible.
  • Physical examinations for the assessment of general health, vitals recording and screening tests will be performed. Based on the reports, direct critical care, medication or surgery will be advised.
  • A vascular neurologist performs techniques like cerebral angiography, blood clot dissolution, lumbar punctures, stroke management and recovery, risk screening and emergency treatment.
  • After treatment, the professionals put patients of the required recovery treatments. Rehabilitation and medication follow.
